Independent Retirement Living

How do we look after our residents on a daily basis?

Our aim is to be approachable, caring, and responsive to all residents’ daily needs and to be very clear as to what we can and can’t do.

Our friendly Manager is always available to talk things through or to show you around our facilities – we’ll be happy to help!

Help with benefits and costs

Under current UK Government rules, some residents may claim benefits to help with their costs of accommodation at Broadlands. This may include Housing Benefit.

Thanks to our charitable status, we maintain a low weekly rate when compared to similar senior living providers. To help residents and their families understand costs in full and submit appropriate benefits claims, our Administrator will happily outline all you’ll need to know in advance.

To help us help you we may need to discuss personal information and access sensitive data. If so, this will be in accordance with our data protection policy and handled in the strictest of confidence.

Staying Healthy

Broadlands removes the hassle and anxiety of re-ordering regular medications by arranging for prescriptions to be ordered and delivered to the door. Once they arrive, we’ll check them in, and our manager will hand them over at the start of the medication cycle. This incurs a small daily charge.

For clients who require additional support in either ordering or administering medications, we can suggest suitable assistance from a nominated medication provider as our team are unable to administer medications. We will happily keep medical records on behalf of residents to assist healthcare teams in case of emergency.

We are well served by local General Practitioners and Dentists; an NHS Urgent Treatment Centre (formally Minor Injuries Unit) is reached in less than five minutes and Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital is around an hour away.

Living with Covid

Living with Covid is now becoming the norm and is a part of our daily lives. In line with established infection control measures within any communal living setting, we practice high levels of respiratory and hand hygiene measures, plus ensure PPE is always used or is available for use.

If cases within Broadlands are highlighted, we do our upmost to continue with a normal daily routine, however in some cases we may need to restrict visitors and general footfall throughout the building. We will discuss this with clients, or their families should this be necessary.

Clean & Tidy

Residents may wash and dry their personal clothing using laundry facilities (including automatic machines, tumble dryers and rotary airers) on-site and we will wash and dry bedding and towels on a regular basis. We also offer a laundry service to those that do not wish to do their own laundry for a small fee.

Personal services including a hairdresser and chiropodist are organised on a regular basis however residents may arrange their own services and book the on-site salon by prior arrangement.

Mobility Matters

Our premises were built in several stages from 1945. To make them more accessible for residents and staff, we’ve made reasonable adjustments throughout, including a passenger lift and stairlifts.

Despite these improvements, the premises are not suitable for residents with severe mobility impairment or requiring specialist equipment for personal care.
